Body ovate and compressed, body depth 2.1 in SL. Pectoral fin long, reaching to origin of anal fin when appressed. Scales on top of head extending anteriorly to above anterior margin of eye. Small canines at anterior parts of both jaws; the fourth canine of upper jaw enlarged and curved outward; lateral teeth molar-like. Caudal fin forked. Body silver-white; a rectangular blue blotch behind eye; alternative blue and yellow lines on head below eye; fins dusky.

From Bahamas to Brazil.
Remarks:
This species is distinguishable from other species of Calamus by the following points:lateral-line scales 51〜56, 12 spines and 12 soft rays in the dorsal fin and 10 soft rays in the anal fin.
