(Family): Squamation by liner, dorsoventrally elongated scales. (Genus): Body high, body length about 1.7 of depth. Both caudal lobes markedly elongated. (Species): Side with about ten scutes area (formed by 2 or 3 scales), distributing irregularly. First dorsal spine minute, second the longest. First anal spine short, less than 1/5 of oribit. Anal fin membranes with 4 black blotches.
Distribution:
The present species hitherto has been known from the western Central Atlantic. Distribution in other waters expectative.
Remarks:
Three monotypic genera have been known in this family. Another genus Grammicolepis has not so high body, body length about 2.3 of depth. Some individuals of the present species have remarkably elongated filament in first anal spine. (Shimizu)
