(Genus): Two rows of enlarged nodular bony plates on the lower parts of the sides. (Species): Body rhomboidal, well compressed. Scales small; size, shape, squamation irregular. Longitudinal scale rows ca. 95. Dorsal and anal fin spines not long. Soft rays of dorsal and anal fins short in anterior ones, long in central to posterior ones. Pectoral fin fan-shaped. Caudal fin with round margin. No ventral scute. Body dark brown, blackish ventrally.
Distribution:
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Oceans. Habitat deep, 600〜800 m.
Remarks:
The present species is recognized readily by its possession of bony plates on the sides. Shape and arrangement of plate vary individually. (Shimizu)
