調査個体は,胸鰭先端の相対的位置等が記載と合わないが,計数的形質は比較的よく一致するので I. loppei とした。 (清水)
Distinctive characters:
(Family): Body flabby and naked. One dorsal fin, base short, located just behind head. Pelvic fin jugular, with a few rays. Anal fin base extremely long continuous with caudal fin. (Genus): Pelvic fin short, tip only reaching pecotral fin insertion. (Species): Head with thick gelatinous tissue. Head surface rugouse, a deep hollow on interorbit. Lateral line running on middle of side, scales in the tube. Second pelvic ray embedded in skin in more than 500 mm TL individuals. Snout acute and projecting. All fin membranes black except white pelvic fin.
Distribution:
Both sides of the Atlantic.
Remarks:
Specimens examined are identified I. loppei because of the coinsidence of meristic characters with descriptions, although relative position of pecotral fin tip and other characters are not fully agree with descriptions. (Shimizu)
