特 徴：
（科）：体は細長い。誘引突起は非常に長く，吻端あるいは吻端の上方から始まる。背部に肉阜はない。皮膚は密生する微小棘でおおわれる。（属）：下顎歯は湾曲しており，2〜6列。誘引突起の基部は吻端にある。擬餌状体は1発光器を備える球部を有する。背鰭は5〜9軟条，まれに4あるいは10軟条。臀鰭は4〜7軟条，まれに8軟条。（種）：誘引突起の長さは標準体長の120％以下。擬餌状体は微小棘でおおわれ，先端が扁平な小乳頭状突起を有する（図）。擬餌状体の球部の先には，細長い暗色の延長部がある。その延長部の先端付近には，短い黒色の糸状物が塊をなし存在する。球部には2〜3本の無色の糸状物がある。擬餌状体の後縁で，球部から下方へ少し離れた箇所に，1対の隣接する小付属物がある。
分 布：
三大洋。模式産地-5°42’S, 43°36’E, 水深2500m。

Distinctive characters：
(Family)：Body elongate. Illicium very long, originated at or above end of snout . No caruncles on back. Skin coverd with close-set minute spines. (Genus)：Lower jaw teeth curved, in 2〜6 rows. Base of illicium at end of snout. Escal bulb having a photophore in it present. Dorsal fin rays 5〜9, rarely 4 or 10. Anal fin rays 4〜7, rarely 8. (Species)：Illicial length less than 120％ of SL. Esca covered with minute spines and bearing distally-flattened papillae (Fig.). An elongate, darkly pigmented distal prolongation attached to escal bulb. Short, black filaments concentrated around tip of the prolongation. Escal bulb with 2〜3 unpigmented filaments. A close-set pair of small appendages on posterior margin of illicium some distance below bulb.
Distribution：
Three major oceans. Type locality-5°42’S, 43°36’E, 2500 m.
Remarks：
The genus includes 19 species (Bertelsen, Pietsch, and Lavenberg, 1981). (Fujii)
