Dorsal fin small, its position around midway of total length. Pectoral fins fully lateral in position. Anal fin well posterior to dorsal fin. Adipose fin present. (Genus):Snout not more than 10% of SL. Posterior end of maxillary below or beyond posterior half of eye. Pelvic insertion distinctly in front of dorsal fin origin. Skeleton moderately ossified. (Species):No distinct black spot surrounding anus. Sensory pores of dentary not or indistinctly outlined with pigment. Ventral scales not silvery. Gill rakers 12〜15*. Pyloric caeca 12〜16*. Vertebrae 53〜56*.
Distribution:
Tropical waters of three major oceans. Type locality-off Brazil.
