First dorsal originated above the rear end of pelvic base. Second dorsal similar to first dorsal in shape and slightly smaller. No enlarged denticle along upper margin of caudal fin. Anal fin low, its base length longer than those of first and second dorsals. A small spiracle immediately behind eye. Nasal flap subtriangular. Labial fold present only on lower jaw. Teeth similar on jaws, mostly 5 cusped. Seven or eight saddles on body which are outlined by rows of small black spots. White small spots in the saddles variable in degree from almost unrecognizable to somewhat distinct among specimens.
Distribution:
Caribbean Sea and off Suriname.
Remarks:
S. haeckelii has also small black spots similar to the present species, but the saddles not margined by the spots (Springer, 1979). (Uyeno and Sasaki)
