Height 153 mm, breadth 105 mm. Shell thick, heavy,with low spires and large body whorl. Protoconch large, prominent. Spires with low spiral cords, knobs and varices. Body whorl with a row of knobs on the shoulder and two more rows of lower knobs and low radial ribs. Surface rough, grayish, yellowish white. Aperture narrow with characteristic expansion. Thick outer lip with 12-13 thick spiral ribs. Callus fleshy in color with oxydized silverly lustre. Posterior and anterior canal deep. Inner lip with darker callus overridden by irregular folds. A deep pseudoumbilicus presents among expanded callus, previous varix and strongly recurved anterior canal. Operculum small, rectangular.
Distribution:
North Carolina, West Indies, Bermuda and off Suriname.
Remarks:
C. madagascariensis madagascariensis, which is distributed in Bahama, differs from this subspecies in having much more prominent projections.
