特 徴：
殻高55mm，殻径40mm。殻は厚く堅牢。螺塔は低く，体層が大きく卵球形。胎殻は大きく乳頭状で白い。続く後生層ははじめ同じ強さの螺肋と縦肋が交叉し布目彫刻をあらわすが，次体層あたりでは螺肋は幅広くなり低く，その上を細い縦肋がまたぎ，その間隔は徐々に広くなり，背部では縦肋は極めて弱く，幅の広い螺肋のみ顕著である。体層の2/3あたりの所に太い縦張肋がある。殻色は淡褐色の地に四角い濃褐色斑が規則的に並ぶが，あまり明瞭でない。殻口は広く三日月形。外唇は最後の縦張肋と一致して肥厚し約20本の螺肋がある。その縦張肋は反曲し，反曲面の狭い溝内には褐色斑が明らかである。内唇から軸唇にかけても白い滑層が発達していて，内唇には殻表の螺肋が現われ，軸唇上には小瘤を散らしている。前溝は深く，縫帯は強く反り，くびれ，擬臍孔がある。
採集記録：
水深49〜85m（生貝7）。
分 布：
ノースカロライナからテキサス，バーミュダ，ブラジルまで。上部陸棚帯。
備 考：
インド・太平洋のウラシマガイ類に似るが，厚質で軸唇に小顆粒があるのが極めて特異的。
Diagnostic characters：
Height 55 mm, breadth 40 mm. Shell solid, thick, globular with a low spire. Protoconch mamillar, white. Early teleconch cancellated, but axial sculptures become obsolete later except a varix at 2/3 of the body whorl, and low, flat spiral ribs become prominent. Surface pale brown with quadrate brown blotches arranged in a regular pattern. Aperture wide, hemi-circular. Outer lip thickened with the last varix carrying some 20 spiral ribs. A deep groove presents just behind the outer lip. A white callus deposited on inner to columellar lips. Granules present on the columellar lip. Anterior canal deep, fasciole strongly recurved with pseudoumbilicus.

North Carolina to Texas, Bermuda, Brazil and off Suriname. Upper shelf.
