Abralia veranyi (Rüppell, 1844)
特 徴：
外套長3.5cm。ホタルイカ様の小型種。外套膜は円錐形で鰭は菱形。眼は開眼型。腕には吸盤2列あり，基部の方は鉤に変形している腕があり，又先端は4列の微小吸盤となる。左第Ⅳ腕は交接腕化し，先端吸盤はなく1対の肉質隆起がある。触腕掌部には4本の鉤があり，背側先端方には泳膜がある。外套膜の腹面は発光器に覆われ，更に頭部，腕にも及ぶ。眼胞の発光器は5個で，両端の2個は中の3個より著しく大きい。採集記録：分 布：
地中海，マデイラ，アフリカ西岸，メキシコ湾，キューバ，スリナム沖。
備 考：
本属はインド太平洋の暖海域に多種あり，概形は互によく似ているが，体表発光器の数と配列，眼胞発光器の大きさ，触腕掌部の構造及び交接腕の形式によって属・種の識別点となる。
Diagnostic characters：
Mantle conical, 3.5 cm long, with sagittate fins posteriorly. Arms with 2 rows of suckers of which several proximal ones may change into hooks and become 4 rows of minute suckers distally. Left ventral arm in male hectocotylized, with a pair of fleshy flaps near distal tip. Tentacular club bears 4 hooks and dorsal membrane. Ventral surfaces of mantle, head and arms are scattered by small photophores. Optic vesicule with 5 photophores of which terminal two prominently larger than medial 3.
Distribution：
Temperate to tropical regions of the Atlantic including Gulf of Mexico and off Suriname.
Remarks：
There are several species apparently similar. The arrangement and numbers of photophores of the body surface and optic vesicules, tentacular armatures and morphology of hectocotylus are major characters for identification to species.
