Carapace quadrilateral, greatest breadth being between tips of external orbital spines of both sides which are prominent and directed obliquely outward. Dorsal surface uneven, with a H-shaped depression in median part. Supraorbital border sinuous, with transverse inner half and concave outer half. Cornea spherical and retreated into a deep fossa. Anterolateral tooth small, but sharp and directed outward more strongly than external orbital spine. Chelipeds equal; distal half of carpus and proximal half of outer surface of palm provided together with a prominent tuft of soft hairs.
Distribution:
Type-locality is off Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 73 m deep. Additional records are from off North Carolina and the Gulf of Mexico off Florida.
Remarks:
The genus Frevillea A. Milne Edwards which has been considered as a synonym of Goneplax Leach, was resurrected chiefly on the difference in the male abdomen and the first and second pleopods.
