Carapace depressed, with a median longitudinal ridge, dorsal surface being divided into two by cervical groove; median ridge with two spines side by side at anterior end; anterior half of median ridge with three equidistant spines, the median of which is composed of two spines side by side; posterior half also with three groups of two spines side by side; gastric region with three spines in a longitudinal row, and behind it two spines arranged transversely; five spines on a linear ridge subparallel to lateral border of carapace which is armed with six spines on anterior part and three on posterior part of anterior half, and with seven on posterior half. First to fifth abdominal segments each with strong ridge and forward-directed spine; in first segment anterior margin with two spines laterally. All pereiopods chelate, with first pair enormously developed.

West Atlantic from Canada to the Lesser Antilles, the East Atlantic from the Cape Verde Islands to Guinea Bay, the western Indian Ocean and the Malay Archipelago, 458-2,865 m deep.
