A large species without supraorbital spine. Rostrum short, rounded, with a small sharp tip. Cervical grooves of both sides united dorsally; postcervical groove not sharp, but distinct, traversing the posterior one-third of carapace; its lower end fails to reach a longitudinal ridge across upper part of branchial region. Eyestalk rather slender for its whole length and suddenly widens just at base of cornea. Antennal scale slightly exceeds median part of third antennal segment, having about ten granular and some rod-like luminescent organs. Third maxilliped about equal in length to first to third pereiopods; fourth and fifth pereiopods broad and fringed with long hairs on both borders. Exopod of uropod with several minute luminescent organs.
Distribution:
North Atlantic north to 40°N, and East Atlantic southward to South Africa, 550-4,000 m deep.
