Specimens examined：6 (SL 68.0～86.0 mm).
Counts：D Ⅳ～Ⅴ, Ⅰ～Ⅱ, 8～9; A Ⅱ～Ⅲ, Ⅰ～Ⅱ 7～8; P1 14～15; P2 Ⅰ, 5; GR 6～7+14～17=19～24.
特 徴：
頭部は骨質の隆起に富み，それらの多くは放射状の隆起線を有し縁辺部で突出して鋸歯状をなす。背鰭と臀鰭は体の後部で対在し，それらの鰭の前方に一連の遊離棘がある。腹鰭は腹位で1棘5軟条。両顎の歯は微小で歯帯をなす。上主上顎骨が1個ある。体側は小さな円鱗によって覆われるが脱落しやすい。
分 布：
西部北大西洋の熱帯域と南太平洋のサモア諸島付近の深海。

Distinctive characters：
Head with many ridges, and most ridges serrated. Dorsal fin located above anal fin at the rear part of body, and semi-isolated spines present in front of the fins. Pelvic fin with 1 spine and 5 soft rays. Teeth of jaws minute in bands. One supramaxillary. Side of body covered with deciduous small cycloid scalse.
Distribution：
Deep sea of tropical western North Atlantic and South Pacific near Samoan Islands.
Remarks：
Monotypic family represented by this species. (Uyeno and Sato)
