Specimens examined：2 (TL 202, 540 mm; ♂ 1, ♀ 1). Depth：380 m.
特 徴：
（科）：頭部鰓蓋域に1対の発電器官を持つ。背鰭は2基。皮膚は円滑。（属）：口は大きく拡張できる。体盤幅は体盤長より大きい。肛門前長は尾部長より長い。（種）：皮膚はまったく円滑。第1背鰭起点は腹鰭基底後端より著しく前位。幼魚の体盤前縁に左右とも深い切れ込みがある。体背面は一様に黒褐色を呈する。腹面は白色。
分 布：
東部及び西部大西洋の温帯から熱帯にかけての浅海域。 （上野・三宅）
Distinctive characters
(Family)：Electric organ developed between side of head and forward extension of pectoral. Two dorsal fins. Skin smooth. (Genus)：Mouth widely distensible. Disc width greater than disc length. Preanal length longer than tail length. (Species)：Skin entirely naked. First dorsal originated clearly in front of rear end of pelvic base. Disc of young deeply notched on both sides about opposite mouth. Dorsal surface of body uniform blackish brown; ventral surface white.
Distribution：
Temperate to tropical zones of both sides of the Atlantic. (Uyeno and Miyake)
