特 徴：
尾柄部を除く体は，鱗が変形した甲板におおわれる。体甲は背鰭と臀鰭の後方で閉じる。背中隆起は鋭く，後頭部から背鰭起部に達する。体の横断面は縦に長い五角形を呈する。眼の前上方から短い棘が前方に突出し，体甲の腹後方にも後方へ向かう棘がある。両眼間隔域は凹む。尾柄の前部の背縁と腹縁に小さな単一の鱗板をもつ個体が多い。尾鰭はわずかに円い。臀鰭起部は，背鰭の後縁よりも後にある。体の地色は淡黄褐色で淡青色の小斑点や不規則な線が走る。頬には数本の青色縦線が走る。
分 布：
大西洋の温・熱帯域。西部ではマサチューセッツからブラジルまで。
備 考：
本種は同属のA. polygoniusに似るが，胸鰭条数が11本であること，頬に青色縦線が数本平行に走ることで識別できる。 （松浦）
Distinctive characters：
Body except for caudal peduncle covered with dermal plates. Carapace elongated pentagonal in transverse section, closed behind dorsal and anal fins. Dorsal ridge sharp, extending from nape to origin of dorsal fin. A short spine projecting forward from eye. Interorbital space concave. A spine projecting posteriorly from posteroventral corner of carapace. An isolated small dermal plate on dorsal and ventral sides of caudal peduncle in many individuals. Caudal fin rounded. Origin of anal fin posterior to last ray of dorsal fin. Body yellowish brown with irregular blue lines and blotches; cheek with several longitudinal blue lines.
Distribution：
Warm and tropical regions of Atlantic; in the western Atlantic from Massachusetts to Brazil.
Remarks：
This species is similar to A. polygonius but differs from it by having 11 pectoral fin rays and several irregular blue lines on the cheek. (Matsuura)
