　体はやや長い楕円形で側扁する。鱗は骨質で大きく，比較的規則正しく並ぶ。第1背鰭は鰓孔の上方に位置し，3棘からなる。第1棘を起こすと，第2棘によって固定される。腰骨の後端に上下に可動な4節からなる鞘状鱗がある。眼の前下方に溝があり，鰓孔の上部後方に骨質の肥大鱗がある。体側の鱗には小棘も隆起物もなく，比較的滑らかである。上顎の外列歯は8本，内列歯は6本，下顎には1列に並ぶ8本の歯がある。尾柄は側扁する。尾鰭の上下両葉は後方へ延長し，第2背鰭の前部軟条も糸状に延長する。体の背方は青灰色，腹方は橙色を帯びる。吻から胸鰭基部下方に向って2本の青色線が曲走する。第2背鰭と臀鰭，尾鰭は青色線で細く縁どられる。 　大西洋とインド洋の熱帯部の浅海。 　本種は同属の他種から頭部の青色線と，第2背鰭前部が糸状に延長することで識別できる。　（松浦） 　Body elliptical and compressed, covered with imbricate plate-like scales. First dorsal fin over gill opening, with trigger-like locking structure. Posterior end of pelvis with movable encasing scales. A groove in front of eye. Enlarged osseous scales behind gill opening. Scales on body with no tubercles or spines, relatively smooth. Upper jaw with two rows of teeth; the outer series with 8 teeth, the inner with 6. Lower jaw with 8 teeth arranged in a single row. Anterior soft rays of dorsal fin produced into filaments. Upper and lower lobes of caudal fin elongated. Body dusky blue dorsally, orange ventrally; 2 curved blue lines extending from snout to pectoral base; soft dorsal fin and anal fins edged with a blue line. 　Tropical regions in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. 　This spacies is easily distinguishable from other species of Balistes by 2 curved blue lines on the head.
