Specimens examined：3 (SL 58.2～68.0 mm).
Counts：D Ⅰ-Ⅰ-Ⅴ, 8; A 6; P2 Ⅰ, 4.
特 徴：
（科）：頭部は堅固な骨板で覆われる。後側頭骨と前鰓蓋骨は棘様で著しく後方へ延長する。胸鰭は上葉と下葉に二分されるが，遊離軟条はない。腹鰭は1棘4軟条。体側の鱗は稜鱗状。（属）：第一背鰭の直前に2本の遊離棘があり，それぞれ背鰭の両側に倒すことができる。側線がない。（種）：胸鰭の先端は臀鰭起部を越えない。胸鰭長は標準体長の30.1～32.4％。両眼間域はほとんど平坦か，ごくわずかに凹む。
分 布：
スリナム沖。
備 考：
本属には1種D. volitansのみが報告されていたが，胸鰭の先端が臀鰭基底の後端を越え，しばしば尾鰭基底にまで達すること，および両眼間域の凹みが顕著であることにより本種と区別できる。本種は小型個体のみ採集されたが，本種と同サイズのD. volitansと比較しても上記の特徴は明らかであった。 （上野・佐藤）
Distinctive characters：
(Family)：Head encased in bony shield. Posterior ends of posttemporal and preopercle spinous, markedly extending to backward. Pectoral fin divided in two parts, without free ray. Pelvic fin with a single spine and 4 soft rays. Side of body covered with scute-like scales. (Genus)：Two free spines present just in front of 1st dorsal fin, both spines depressable on each side of dorsal fin base respectively. No lateral line. (Species)：Tip of pectoral fin not extending beyond origin of anal fin base. Pectoral length 30.1～32.4％ of SL. Interorbital space flat or slightly concaved.
Distribution：
Off Suriname.
Remarks：
D. volitans has been reported as the sole representative of this genus. All collected specimens appear to be young, but are distinguishable from D. volitans of the same size. (Uyeno and Sato)
