(Family):Body bounded by even curves. Snout short, blunt. Eye surrounded by adipose tissue. Mouth small, oblique. Pectoral fin long, tip pointed, longer than head length. No pelvic fin. No fleshy keel on caudal peduncle. (Genus):BR6. End of maxilla reaching to or before anterior eye margin, not reaching below eye center. One to 3 flat blade-like spines ahead of median fins. (Species):Body high, length about 1.6 of depth. Anterior rays of dorsal and anal fins much elongated, falcate shape. Body blue dorsally, silver ventrally.
Distribution:
Florida to Argentina. Habitat over continental shelf at 50 to 70 m deep.
Remarks:
P. triacanthus, another occuring species in this area, has low body, body length more than twice of depth and anterior rays of dorsal and anal fins elongated slightly, not falcate shape. (Shimizu)
