(Family):Body elongated, highly compressed. Base of dorsal fin very long, from nape to just before caudal fin. Base of anal fin also long, beginning from midpoint of body to just before caudal fin. Caudal fin forked deeply. Lateral line on middle of body, curving upwards just behind pectoral fin. Pelvic fins fitting groove on ventral midline. Monotypic family. (Species): Body low, depth less than quarter of length in adult. Pectoral fin long, slightly shorter than HL. Anterior anal rays falcate. Vertebrae 31. Forehead steepening in male of adult(more than 30 cm), almost vertical as shown in picture.
Distribution:
High-sea of all oceans.
Remarks:
Another species of this genus C. equiselis has short pectoral fin about half of HL, not falcate anterior anal fin rays, and low body depth less than quarter of length. (Shimizu)
