特 徴：
体は卵形で側扁する。体長は体高の1.8倍，頭長の2.3倍。眼は大きく，頭長は眼径の1.9倍。前鰓蓋骨隅角部に1小棘がある。腹鰭は頭長より明らかに短く，内側の鰭膜は体側下方と幅広く癒合する。尾鰭は円形。体は朱色で腹方は銀白色。背鰭は淡色で軟条部の縁辺は黒色。腹鰭と臀鰭は朱色。尾鰭は淡色で朱赤点が散在し，後縁は黒色。胸鰭は淡色。
分 布：
ニュージャージーからブラジルまで。
備 考：
本種は側線鱗数が31～39枚と少なく，背鰭軟条数が10本であることにより他の大西洋産キントキダイ類から区別される。 （松浦）
Distinctive characters：
Body ovate and compressed, body depth 1.8 in SL. Eye large, its diameter 1.9 in head length. A small spine at corner of preopercle. Pelvic fin shorter than head, connected broadly with body by a membrane. Caudal fin rounded. Body vermilion, becoming white ventrally; dorsal fin pale with black edge at the soft portion; pelvic and anal fins vermilion; caudal fin pale with vermilion spots; pectoral fin pale.
Distribution：
From New Jersey to Brazil.
Remarks：
This species is distinguished from other Atlantic priacanthids by having 10 dorsal soft rays and the smaller number of lateral-line scales. (Matsuura)
