Body elongate and compressed. Boody depth 70〜73% of HL. Mouth large, lower jaw projecting beyond the upper. Preopercular edge serrated. Posterior end of pelvic fin just anterior to anus. Lateral line extending to posterior margin of caudal fin. Second spine of anal fin greatly enlarged. Scales moderately large, ctenoid; scales in the row just above to lateral line 56. Caudal fin forked. Body yellowish brown dorsally, silver laterally and ventrally; lateral line dusky; pectoral and pelvic fins yellow, other fins dusky.
Distribution:
From southern Florida to Brazil.
Remarks:
This species is distinguishable from other Centropomus species by the following points:Body rather deep, scales relatively large, and 52〜56 scales in the row just above lateral line. (Matsuura)
