(Family):A series of small scutes on both side of soft dorsal and anal fin bases. (Genus):Only ventral midline with large shields bearing a sharp spine on center of it. (Species):Mouth large, oblique, highly protrusible. Anteriorly directing spines in a series on supraorbital. Scale small cycloid. Body high, body length about 1.8 of its depth. Pectoral fin on high position, about center of body depth. Pelvic fin spine soft, flexible; soft rays long, the longest one reaching 5th anal ray when depressed. First anal spine large, immovable; 2nd one small, movable. Body color red or pink, distal half of pelvic fin membrane black.
Distribution:
Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Oceans. Habitat deeper than 300 m.
