(Family):Gill opening wide. Anterior nostril well above upper ilp. Dorsal, anal, and caudal fins continuous. Supramaxillary absent. (Genus):Pelvic fin absent. Pectoral fin with 24〜27 rays. Dorsal fin beginning before origin of anal fin. (Species):Jaws with a pair of canine tooth near symphysis, lower one larger than upper one. Teeth on upper jaw in 2〜3 rows, anterior teeth on inner row enlarged and depressed. Vomer with a large frang like tooth and about 10 small conical teeth; a single tooth row on palatine. Body naked with small blackish spots.

Atlantic Ocean.
Remarks:
Two species are known in this genus. One is the present species and another is S. canina known off Hawaii. (Arai)
