(Family): Body compressed, covered with cycloid scales. Eye more or less telescopic, directed upward. A single row of compressed, hooked teeth on tongue. No luminous organ on body. (Genus): Dorsal fin origin in advance of pelvic fin insertion. Posterior tip of pectoral fin rays not extending a vertical from pelvic fin insertion. Pelvic fin longer than pectoral fin. (Species): Dark pigments well developed on posterior half of body along lateral line and on ventral lobe of caudal fin (Fig.). Pigments lacking on pectoral and pelvic fins. Gill filaments not extending to edge of gill covers.
