特 徴：
（科）： 眼は丸く，側方を向く。体は著しく側扁し，無鱗で，鱗や小孔は側線域にもない。1本の黒色帯が体の背中線に沿ってある。背鰭は小さく，全長の中央よりやや後方にある。両顎歯と口蓋骨歯は1列で，前上顎骨の前部の歯が可倒歯であることを除けば，すべて固着歯である。下顎と口蓋骨には数本の巨大な，槍先形の歯がある。脂鰭がある。発光器はない。（属および種）： キバハダカ科は1属1種。
分 布：
大西洋，太平洋，インド洋の熱帯および亜熱帯水域。
備 考：
本種の和名は下顎と口蓋骨にある巨大な槍先形の歯と体が無鱗であることに由来する。 （藤井）
Distinctive characters：
(Family)： Eye round, directed laterally. Body greatly compressed, naked; neither scales nor pores along lateral line area. A black band along middorsal line of body. Dorsal fin small, located slightly behind middle of total length. Teeth on jaws and palatine in a single row, all fixed, except the anterior teeth in premaxillary depressed. Lower jaw and palatine with a few enormously enlarged, lanceolated teeth. Adipose fin present. No luminous organ. (Genus and Species)： One genus and species in the family.
Distribution：
Tropical and subtropical waters of Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian oceans. (Fujii)
