(Family):Outermost pelvic and some of uppermost, lowermost pectoral or lower caudal rays prolonged. Eye minute, laterally directed. (Genus):Pectoral fin bifurcated, the uppermost ray prolonged. The lowermost pelvic ray prolonged, extending beyond origin of anal fin. The lowermost pelvic ray prolonged. Outer pelvic and lower caudal rays never longer then SL. Adipose fin present. (Species):Uppermost pectoral ray notably thicken at its base, not extended to caudal peduncle. More than 6 rays in lower part of pectoral fin. Outer 2 pelvic rays prolonged to reach the origin of anal fin. Lower caudal rays not prolonged. Scales behind the base of lower part of pectoral fin strongly pectinated. Subcaudal notch present at base of lowermost caudal fin.
Distribution:
Have been taken from bathypelagic region, in the tropical to temperate waters in the western Atlantic.
Remarks:
This species differs from members of the genus with subcaudal notch, by presence of strongly pectinated scales behind the base of lower part of pectoral fin, base of upper two pectoral rays united. (Miyake and Aizawa)
