(Family):Dorsal and anal fins situated behind midbody. No luminous gland on shoulder. No adipose fin. Premaxilla and maxilla usually toothed. (Genus):Body scaled, no luminous organ. Dorsal and anal fins almost opposite, both bases length subequal. Vomer, palatine, premaxilla, maxilla, dentary with well developed teeth. Opercular membrane not reaching pectoral fin base. Eye large, about 3/4 of snout length. (Species):Uppermost pectoral ray well elongated, beyond pelvic fin. Hind tip of maxilla below hind margin of orbit.
Distribution:
Gulf of Mexico to off Suriname, off Gulf of Guinea.
Remarks:
Other 3 Atlantic species differ in having 90〜100 SLL in T. longifilis, 46〜47 SLL in T. mekistonema and 19 dorsal rays in T. homoptera (Sulak, 1975). (Shimizu)
