(Family):Body elongate, caudal more than half of body. Lateral line near ventral. (Genus):Head entirely scaleless. Lateral-line scale much enlarged. No wide, black, longitudial, distinct band along lateral line. (Species):Anus white, surrounded by a dark field. Length between snout tip to premaxillary synphysis short, about 1/3 of snout length. Palatine teeth patches not meeting each other anteriorly, separated from pterygoid teeth patch posteriorly, the distance between them 1〜4 times of palatine teeth patch length. Gill rakers on first gill arch 19〜23. Body dark brown, head black. Anterior nostril bearing black tube in adult male, female does not. Body flabby.
Distribution:
Both sides of Atlantic.
Remarks:
A. phalacra, similar to A. oleosa, has firm body and the distance between palatine tooth patch and pterygoid tooth patch less than half of the former length. (Shimizu)
