本標本の歯の配列様式と大小関係はBigelow and Schroeder (1953a) のR.bonasusとよく一致するが,前後歯列数はR. brasiliensisと一致する。歯は前方に向い交換されるので前後歯列数は変化を受けやすいと考え,R. bonasusとした。 (上野・佐々木)
Distinctive characters:
Disc notably expanded laterally; disc width 1.7 times of disc lengh. Tip of pectoral not fully fused with the lateral side of head, and forms a rounded free margin (subrostral fin) originated below spiracle, and the anterior margins on both sides make a wavy protrusion. Tail extremely long and whip-like. Small dorsal fin present. Tail spine close behind dorsal base. Tooth hexagonal, arranged in mosaic pattern, and forming dental plates on jaws; 10 series antero-posteriorly, 7 series transversely; teeth on median series more than twice as wide as those on next series outward.
Distribution:
Coastal waters from New England to central Brazil.
Remarks:
R. bonasus has 6〜8 teeth series antero-posteriorly (Bigelow and Schroeder, 1953a). R. brasiliensis has more than 9 series, but the median series of the species are as wide as the lateral series on both sides. (Uyeno and Sasaki)
