(Family): Dorsal fin absent. Caudal fin well developed. Inner margin of posterior lobe of pelvic fused with tail. (Genus): Snout not expanded terminally. (Species): Snout relatively short, preoral length 33〜37% of DW. Upper surface everywhere smooth with mucous pores. Mature males with 4 rows of alar thorns, and the inner margin of pelvic fin completely free from pectoral fin (pelvic of young fused with pectoral as in males). Total 22〜23 teeth rows on upper jaw in males, 26 in females. Upper surface light brown; lower surface blackish brown except snout, around mouth, anus, and outer margin of anterior pelvic lobe.
Distribution:
Reported from 16°35’N to off Suriname.
Remarks:
A. longirostris, known from Gulf of Mexico, has longer snout, so that preoral length equal to 52% of DW. (Uyeno and Miyake)
