Snout strongly produced in a long, flat, leaf-like blade. Median line of dorsal side of snout with a thick rounded keel. Pectoral inserted below 5th gill-opening. Eye small, about 1/10 of preocular length. Spiracle minute, its diameter less than 1 mm. Mouth protrusive. Teeth lanceolate, slender, and slightly curved inward; many grooves on the inner side of cusps; root deeply divided. Body soft even after preserved in formalin.
Distribution:
Previously reported from the vicinity of Japan, South Africa, and Australia in the Pacific; and off Portugal in the Atlantic. This is the first record of the species from the western Atlantic.
