Single dorsal fin without spine set far back of body, above anal fin. Lower caudal lobe not produced, and subterminal notch absent in upper caudal lobe. Mouth wide and terminal. Six gill-openings, the first is continuous under the throat. Gill-septa frill-like, and gill-filaments exposed somewhat out of gill-openings. Spiracle present. Eye without nictitating membrane. Lateral line grooved on the skin. Teeth similar on jaws, with 3 lanceolate cusps.
Distribution:
Eastern Atlantic from Norway to Madeira and Morocco. Off South Africa, Japan, and California in the Pacific. Here the species is reported from the western Atlantic at first time.
Remarks:
The family Chlamydoselachidae contain only one modern form. (Uyeno and Sasaki)
