Length 40 mm, height 43 mm, breadth 12 mm. Shell thin, discoid, inequivalve. Left valve flat or slightly concave, with some 17 radial ribs and usually one secondary rib per inter-rib groove where present growth lirae. Surface pale yellow, with darker and paler spots and cheveron patterns. Rigtht valve deeper than left, white, with some 20 low and broad radial ribs. Inter-rib groove shallow, with yellow spots along the both sides of the groove. Ears carry radial ribs. Interior white, but margined with dark red in the left valve.
Distribution:
North Carolina to Florida, West Indies and off Suriname. Sublittoral.
Remarks:
This species somewhat similar to P. chazaliei, but has deeper right valve, narrower radial grooves and more lustreous surface.
