Mantle cylindrical with blunut end, 5 cm in length. Fins small, oval, separated from each other. Head large, with forwardly directed eyes. Arms short, with biserial suckers proximally but become quadriserial distally. Tentacles weak, club barely expanded with some 10 rows of minute suckers of which horny rings bear minute teeth. Body deep purplish brown, darkened on distal arms. Photophores present on the bases of Arms T─V.
Distribution:
Bathy- to abyssopelagic in the warm to tropical world oceans.
Remarks:
Two other species, B. berryi and B. bacidifera were described from the Eastern Pacific in 1968.
