ナツメイカ
Bathyteuthis abyssicola Hoyle, 1885
特 徴：
外套長5cm。外套膜は円筒形で，後端鈍く終る。鰭は丸く小さく互に離れている。頭部は大きく，眼は前方を向いているため，眼瞼は頭部側面より離れた所に開口している。漏斗は大きい。腕は短く吸盤は基部寄り2列に並ぶが，先端寄りは4列となる。時に特大吸盤を特つ。触腕は細く，掌部は殆ど拡がらず，凡そ10列の微小吸盤があり，その角質環には微小歯がある。体色は全身的に紫褐色が濃いが，眼の後などは淡い。腕は先端特に濃いのに比し，触腕には殆ど色素を欠く。Ⅰ‐Ⅲ腕基部に発光器がある。
採集記録：
水深220～850m（19個体）。
分 布：
全世界の温熱帯中層域。外洋性種。
備 考：
最近Roper（1968）により東太平洋から更に2種B. berryiとB. bacidiferaが記載された。
Diagnostic characters：
Mantle cylindrical with blunut end, 5 cm in length. Fins small, oval, separated from each other. Head large, with forwardly directed eyes. Arms short, with biserial suckers proximally but become quadriserial distally. Tentacles weak, club barely expanded with some 10 rows of minute suckers of which horny rings bear minute teeth. Body deep purplish brown, darkened on distal arms. Photophores present on the bases of Arms Ⅰ─Ⅲ.
Distribution：
Bathy- to abyssopelagic in the warm to tropical world oceans.
Remarks：
Two other species, B. berryi and B. bacidifera were described from the Eastern Pacific in 1968.
