ウチワイカ（新称）
Discoteuthis discus Young et Roper, 1969
特 徴：
外套長9cm。外套膜は太短い円錐形。鰭は外套側縁の全長に及び，丸く厚く背側で合し，幅は外套長の140％に達する。漏斗軟骨器は亜三角形。眼は大きく開眼型。腕には吸盤が2列あり，その角質環の基部寄りは平滑であるが先端寄りには7─9の半円形歯をもつ。触腕長く，掌部には4列の吸盤があり，中央の3─4対は著しく大きく，角質環には32の低い小歯をもつ。眼瞼に4個の発光器があり，外套膜腹側後方寄りに1発光器をもつ。軟甲には終円錐がなく厚化した匙状に終る。
採集記録：
水深750〜810m（2個体）。
分 布：
南米北東岸，200〜750m。
備 考：
本採集品中に同科の他種Cycloteuthis sirventiらしい1標本があったが，痛みがひどく確信の持てる同定は不可能であった。
Diagnostic characters：
Mantle short, conical. Fins extend to the entire length of mantle, circular, thick, 140% as wide as mantle length. Arms with 2 rows of suckers of which horny rings smooth at proximal margin but present 7─9 semilunar teeth distally. Tentacle long, club with 4 series of suckers of which central 3─4 pairs prominently larger than the others having 32 low teeth. Four photophores present on the eye-lid and a single photophore on the posterior ventral mantle. Gladius lacks of endocone but terminates in a blunt spoon.
Distribution：
Northeast coast of South America.
Remarks：
Among the samples under study a single demolished specimen of Cycloteuthis sirventi was found.
