ホンツメイカ（Hooked squid）
Onychoteuthis banksi Leach, 1817
特 徴：
外套長7cm（成長すると30cmになる）。全体スルメイカ型で，筋肉は良く緊る。鰭は菱形で大きく，両端尖る。外套背中線上に黒い軟甲の中軸が見える。頸襞は9〜10ある。眼は開眼式。腕は強く，吸盤2列で角質環には歯はなく平滑。触腕には19〜23の強力な鉤がある。直腸背側に丸い発光器が2個ある。
採集記録：
水深755m（1個体）。
分 布：
世界中の温熱帯域。表層性。
備 考：
北太平洋にすみ，わが国で一部漁獲されているツメイカO. borealijaponicaは(1)触腕の鉤数が25〜27で多く，(2)直腸背面の発光器が小さく卵円型，(3)外套膜がいく分柔らかいなどの点で異なる。（日本近海についていえば南西日本にホンツメイカ，中部〜東北沖にツメイカを産する）。
Diagnostic characters：
Mantle muscular, cylindrical, 7 cm in length (attains 30 cm in full grown stage), with broad sagittate fins posteriorly. Gladius presents as a dark streak along the mid-dorsum. Neck with 9〜10 pairs of nuchal folds. Arms strong with 2 series of suckers of which horny rings lack of teeth. Tentacular club with 19〜23 strong hooks. Two oval photophores lie on the intestine.
Distribution：
Epipelagic in warm-tropical regions of the world oceans.
Remarks：
O. borealijaponica in the North Pacific differs from O. banksi in having 25〜27 tentacular hooks, smaller intestinal photophores and less muscular mantle.
