A deep-sea species, with an Epizoanthus covering. Anterior shield of carapace smooth for its most part; lateral and posterior parts uneven and provided with short rows of long hairs; a median frontal lobe triangular with obtuse apex, being followed laterally by a shallow depression and the waved low prominence. Eyestalk narrow for its whole length, exceeds only slightly the first segment of antennule, having long hairs on upper margin; cornea rather small; ophthalmic scale with a sharp spine at inner distal end. Chelipeds long, the right being much larger as usual; on denudation of long soft hairs, surface of each segment sparsely covered with minute granules; right palm long and quadrilateral, slightly widening distally; immovable finger deflexed downward only weakly against lower margin of palm. Ambulatory legs markedly long; dactylus longer than propodus, being twisted distally and bordered with short hairs.
Distribution:
Previously known from the West Atlantic from off Nova Scotia to the West Indies, 500-3,500 m deep.
Remarks:
West Atlantic population forms a typical subspecies among seven in the deep-sea of the world.
